Kansas City, KS

Claudio Bieler recorded a brace and Graham Zusi added a goal and assist as Sporting Kansas City snapped a two-game losing skid with an easy 4-0 win over 10-man Chivas USA at Sporting Park.

With the win, Sporting Kansas City (5-3-2) grabbed a share of the Eastern Conference lead with Montreal and New York.

C. J. Sapong added a goal while Jimmy Nielsen took over the club's top spot with his 38th MLS clean sheet and sixth this season for Sporting.

The loss extended Chivas USA's winless streak to four games, dropping to sixth in the Western Conference with a 3-4-2 mark.

After receiving a pass from Zusi, Bieler faked goalkeeper Dan Kennedy into a slide before slotting the ball calmly between two defenders for his fifth goal of the year in the 21st minute.

In the 54th minute, Kennedy was sent off for clipping Paulo Nagamura's back foot from behind on a breakaway in the box.

Backup goalie Patrick McLain made his MLS debut but he could only watch as Bieler buried the penalty kick for his sixth goal of the year and a 2-0 lead for Sporting Kansas City.

Minutes later, Sporting KC added a third when Zusi finished from close range after a cross from the left flank by Josh Gardner in the 65th minute.

In the 87th minute, Sapong kicked a one-timer off a Mechack Jerome cross for the game's fourth and final goal.

Sporting Kansas City hosts Seattle Wednesday in a rematch of last year's US Open Cup final. Chivas USA, meanwhile, will play Portland May 12 without Kennedy.
